Day 1: Dr. Kevin Feldman
Kevin Feldman is the Director of Reading and Early Intervention with the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) where he develops, organizes, and monitors programs related to K-12 literacy and prevention of reading difficulties. He also serves as a Leadership Team Consultant to the California Reading and Literature Project, and assists in the development and implementation of PreK-12 programs throughout California and across the nation. His major contributions are in the areas of assisting struggling readers, preventing reading failure, linking assessment to instruction, developing school-wide reading support models, differentiating instruction to meet the full range of learners, and accommodating and accelerating English language learners, students with disabilities, and other high-risk students.
Dr. Feldman will be presenting on how to assist struggling readers at the middle school and high school level, how to infuse literacy throughout the content areas, how to engage students, and how to differentiate instruction.
Day 2: Dr. George Batsche
Dr. George Batsche is currently Professor and Co-director of the Institute for School Reform in the School Psychology Program at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Batsche directs the Student Support Services Project and the Shared Services Network Project for the Florida Department of Education as well as the statewide pilot project on problem solving and RtI for the State of Florida. The Student Support Services Project is responsible for policy development, technical assistance and training, innovative project development and consultation in the areas of school psychology, school counseling, school social work and school nursing for the State of Florida through the Florida Department of Education. Dr. Batsche has been involved in the implementation of the problem-solving model at the state, district, and building levels for the past 20 years.
Dr. Batsche has been a frequent presenter in the state of Illinois on RtI. His presentation will expand upon information he covered in his October 2009 workshops. Through facilitated discussion and problem solving, Dr. Batsche will lead teams through an assessment of their RtI implementation, including data-based decision making, infrastructure, and sustainability.
